Client: Landbuild and Balfour Beatty Plc. For West Sussex Highways
Duration: 12 weeks
Location: Bosham Harbour, West Sussex
Robert Nicholas was contracted to provide a temporary dam system which would both match existing flood defence levels and permit the contractor to construct the new harbour wall without interference from the tide.
We surveyed the site and assessed the clients working requirements before proposing a solution which would permit work regardless of the state of tide and managed the constraints presented by the adjacent SSSI site. The installation of 75m of the EUR125 Geodesign Barrier in two stages provided optimal value whilst meeting all the constraints of the scheme.
The system capable of withholding 1.25m of water was installed and tested in less than two days with no heavy plant movements or access preparation required.
In the twelve weeks the project took to deliver the barrier withstood storms, waves and impact from craft which had slipped their moorings, all the while providing a dry working environment for the customer.
